X17 caught Liv Tyler today, intervening in an instance of apparent child abuse as a woman hit a boy on his chest repeatedly on the street in Los Feliz in LA.

Tyler was driving alone and saw the incident taking place on the sidewalk – someone who appeared to be a grandmother or caretaker for a boy was screaming at him and hitting him on the chest as he sat in his stroller wailing.

Liv almost caused an accident and she hit the brakes, did a U-turn, and pulled over on the side of the road to reprimand the woman. Unfortunately the woman didn’t speak English and kept telling Tyler “No entiendo. (I don’t understand.)” Liv was telling her “You can’t do that! I’m going to call the police; I’m going to call Child Services!”

Liv tried to comfort the crying boy and when she finally walked away to go back to her car, she told X17 photographers, “When I saw that, I couldn’t take it. I had to do something.” Our photog said she was visibly disturbed.

We’ve gotta give serious props to a person who would have the guts to stand up for a child who can’t speak for himself or defend himself against an adult using unnecessary force. Liv cares … and we love her for it!

No child deserves to be hit,let alone on the chest. I just hope that the parents of that child see the pictures, read the article and take care of the situation.

Liv Tyler, YOU ROCK!!!! No entiendo my ass! Bitch knew exactly wtf was going on!!! Liv showed great courage and compassion for doing what she did! I just wish X17 would have said what happened afterwards! I hope the old, evil hag got arrested and stuffed into the back of a cop car!

ADVISE : if you see trouble, especially family trouble, DO NOT GET INVOLVED. They will end up blaming you. The fact is if Liv was not famous and she tried to stop the lady hitting the child, LIV COULD GET PUT IN JAIL FOR ASSAULT. The Police don’t discriminate. Because Liv is a well known actress you assume she is right, but if she was normal, the Police would arrest both and later charge Liv. SERIOUSLY……if it is not your business and you don’t like it… CALL THE POLICE AND BE ANONYMOUS.

Thank you Liv…you give me the guts to do the same thing if I ever see that. That really hits home when you have kids of your own…

    @ Jessica:

No she won’t put in jail for assault! That’s just nonsense what you are saying there… She just had a conversation with that woman if you take a better look. Liv did the right thing. I wonder what happend to the child afterwards…

I don’t think you can go to jail for that. However…. for those shorts she might go after all :S

Whatever she did, she’s a great person and her aim was to save that child…

I think what she did was admirable. Corporal Punishment is a controversial issue. But I think everyone can agree that no one has the right to hit a child on the chest repeatedly. Good for Liv for stepping in. I hope the woman is being investigated.

I cannot believe Liv would argue with a woman, that clearly has nothing, about how to raise that child. Don’t get me wrong I like Liv, but she has babysitters and a staff behind her. That woman clearly has nothing else. Not that it would actually be a reason to “hit” that child (I wonder if it even happend however). I think celebrities see some things through very different glasses than non-celebrities and I would not step in and argue with that woman….
