When did you know you were famous?
When my grandmother sent me a clipping of my name in a crossword puzzle.

Most ridiculous rumour you’ve read about yourself recently?
That Zach Braff and I were snuggling and staring romantically into each other’s eyes in a wine bar. That made me laugh out loud – it was the first time we’d met, and we were talking about a move he’s directing.

Night out of choice?
A dive bar complete with jukebox and whiskey mac.

Great night in?
Stella McCartney’s house in the country. Once our kids are asleep it’s ‘grab the wine’, and talk turns to boys and husbands, and who’s shagging who.

What do you look for in a friend?
Sincerity, laughter and loyalty.

Trait you most despise in men?
Rudeness and lack of manners – but leaving socks on the floor isn’t grounds for a break-up.

Most treasured possession in your wardrobe?
A Loro Piana camel hat that I bought in London. I wear it almost every day.

Guilty pleasure?
Knickers. I go pretty bonkers in Coco de Mer.

The dress that got away?
An Ossie Clark empire-line dress I tried on 12 years ago.

Most stylish person you know?
Kate Moss. I love playing dress-up with her and her closet.

What are you wearing today?
My favourite plaid Isabel Marant all-in-one, fluffy booties from Topshop, a Chloé peacoat and a hat by Stella McCartney for Gap. It’s very chilly in Shreveport [Louisiana, where Tyler is filming her new movie, Super]!

How beautiful are you?
Right now, not very. I’m fighting a sinus infection and a pimple.

What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Bright blue eyes and dark circles.

What makes you jealous?
Sleeping in.

Best party you’ve ever been to?
My son Milo’s fifth birthday party. Jumping on a bouncy castle has got to be the best exercise.

When did you last lose your temper?
When two paparazzi jumped out from behind a tree while I was hiking in Griffith Park.

When did you last cry?
On the set of Super during a love scene with Rainn Wilson.

Favourite movie character of all time?
Brigitte Bardot as Camille Javal in Contempt.

Favourite song lyric?
‘Love is like a stove, burns you when it’s hot’ – by Gram Parsons.

Most memorable gig?
Seeing Kiss with my mum when I was three. I remember being really scared of the band’s boots.

Heels or flats?
Barefoot.

Wisdom or beauty?
Can’t we have both?

Your story in two words?
Very complicated.

What’s the best advice you’ve even been given?
Follow your heart and never go quietly.

What do you want to do before you die?
Live on a farm with chickens, a vegetable garden, and a John Deere tractor.

The show drew a stellar cast of high-profile figures and celebrities including Samantha Cameron, The First Secretary of State, Lord Mandelson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Liv Tyler, Emma Watson, and Mary Kate Olsen, and the top echelon of the world’s fashion press, including American Vogue’s Anna Wintour, French Vogue’s Carine Roitfeld and Glenda Bailey of American Harper’s Bazaar.
The collection, for spring/summer 2010, was designed by Christopher Bailey, the Yorkshireman who has helped turn Burberry into a luxury status brand.

Burberry joined the FTSE 100 at the beginning of September and is worth two billion pounds. This was its first catwalk show it London Fashion Week since Bailey joined the company eight years ago.

Its switch to home territory from Milan Fashion Week where its shows are normally staged, was specially timed to mark the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week and it sparked off a wave of designer comebacks which have made the event the most celebrated in a quarter century.

Bailey created a poetic catwalk spectacle in balletic shades of pale-rose, lilac, celadon, beige and gold.

He transformed Burberry’s traditional trench-coat – once worn in World War 1 – into a puffed-sleeve, thigh-skimming mini, in sugar-pink satin and shimmering crystals, but kept a nod to the brand’s military origins by cinching the waist with webbing or cavalry belts.

Silk chiffon and gauze were ‘reef-knotted’ into the briefest of micro-skirts, and paired with cashmere sweaters, criss-crossed with matching straps in the manner of an army rucksack.

Rose-beige and lilac, feathered leather coats came with ruched, skintight leggings or silk trousers, rolled up to show pastel socks with strappy cone-heeled platfoprm sandals or high-heeled ‘combat’ boots.

“It was very chic’ a wonderful; re-invention of the look,” said Lord Mandelson, who was attending his first fashion show in Britain.

“London is where it’s at. It inspires the world.” said Gwyneth Paltrow.

“This is a great night for London,” said Anna Wintour.

Liv Tyler, the 32-year-old Hollywood actress on books, bands and her mum and dad’s beauty tips

Do you have a style template?

I’ve learned to dress for my body shape. I feel best about my legs but have a womanly tummy, so I always feel good when I have something a little loose around my stomach and my legs are poking out. My favourite default outfit is Wolford tights or leggings with a cute shift dress. I love dresses by Isabel Marant and Iro, and Stella McCartney heels. I’m also addicted to American Vintage for gorgeous slips and tees.

Who do you go to for the red carpet?

It depends. Stella made my dress for the Met Ball. I love her clothes – they are so elegant and easy to wear. It was fun having something made specifically for me and being able to collaborate on the design. I also love Lanvin. Alber [Elbaz] is a genius. He knows how to cut for women and his fabrics are sensuous.

We’ve seen you in and out of the gym in LA recently…

I usually work out with David Kirsch in New York and I really miss him now I’m in LA. But I’ve just discovered Tracey Anderson through Gwyneth [Paltrow]. I’m not working out directly with her, but one of her girls runs a dance class in LA, which I attend three of four times a week. The 90-minute sessions fly by and my body is getting really tight.

Where do you recommend going for a night out in LA?

There’s a fun place near me called Cafe Stella where I go to eat. It’s a little French bistro on the east side of town. Otherwise, for me it’s more about socialising at home, either in the afternoon with everyone swimming or in the evening when my friends and I have dinner parties. I had one recently and made two Jamie Oliver pasta dishes. They were so popular I got texts the next day asking for the recipes.

What about when you’re in New York?

New York is very neighbourhoody so you have your favourite little place in your patch – there are some great restaurants on my street [in the West Village]. Bigelow’s is one of my favourite shops. It’s one of the oldest pharmacies in the US and stocks an amazing range of beauty products.

What’s your approach to beauty?

My mother [Bebe Buell] and grandmother were models and took such good care of their skin that I couldn’t help but learn from them. I can’t go to bed without cleansing, toning and moisturising – no matter how late it is. I use masks a lot, too. Skin Targetters Black For Light Mask by Givenchy brightens up my skin. [Liv is the face of Givenchy's Very Irresistible fragrance and Le Makeup.] My dad [Steve Tyler of Aerosmith] is also full of great beauty advice, like wear your perfume in your belly button and on the soles of your feet so that it becomes part of you.

What advice do friends come to you for?

I’m a good problem solver. I go with my gut instinct on things. For the past year, though, I’ve been reading self-help books. I’ve been through a really hard time in my life and have needed other people’s wisdom to help me feel OK. I’m also reading The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. It’s beautiful and insightful.

What’s on your iPod?

I’ve been playing Kings of Leon for about seven years. But I’m also listening to Band of Horses, Arcade Fire and MGMT. And I’m obsessed with Gram Parsons at the moment. Love Hurts is my favourite track – it’s so true.

Finally, what’s the most unlikely place we might bump into you?

Naked at the Beverly Hot Springs in LA. It’s a traditional Korean bathhouse where you soak in natural hot springs and get scrubbed, massaged and cleansed to within an inch of your life. They even wash your hair. You feel clean and happy afterwards.
